China, Russia to Further Cooperation on Education and Culture

China and Russia vowed to further the cooperation on education, culture, and other fields Tuesday afternoon during the Fourth Session of the China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports.

The meeting was presided over by Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Galina Karelova.

The two sides ratified the principles of Sino-Russian media working group and film working group, and agreed to submit the principles of Sino-Russian tourism sub-committee to the eighth regular meeting between the prime ministers of the two countries.

Chen and Karelova praised the establishment of the Sino-Russian working group on archives, which has already become a mechanism of the China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports.

Chen said that the committee has done a good job, and played an important role in enhancing Sino-Russian strategic cooperative partnership and furthering bilateral cooperation.

She said that Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Russia this May and reached consensus with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports should do its best to realize the common ground reached by the two heads of state.

Karelova expressed her appreciation for the progress of the committee and hoped to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to improve the committee's work.

After the meeting, the two sides signed a document on the Fourth Session of the China-Russia Cooperation Committee on Education, Culture, Health and Sports, and the other three documents on education, health and tourism cooperation.
