Art Festival Woos Investors

Autumn brings with it dazzling colors, and equally awe-inspiring shows. The citizens of Shenyang in northeast China's Liaoning Province are being treated to a variety of fall performances. On tap is a mixture of stage classics and fabulous festivals, but this time with thespian eye on attracting investors.

A modern Peking opera entitled "Mother Judge" ushered in the fifth Shenyang Art Festival opening ceremony with a poignant story. The festival will feature performances that are highly popular among the local people. These will include folk songs and dances, as well as comic cross-talk and all forms of skits. Shenyang has hosted five art festivals in the last two decades. They aim to enhance the provincial capital city's cultural market, as well as boost its regional economy.

Li Moran, performing artist of Liaoning People's Art Theater, said:"The art festival is a multifaceted presentation of the city's splendid cultural heritage. It's inspiring to both the general public and the performing professionals."

The eight-day art festival running through September 20 has distinguished itself from the previous ones. This time it's stressing the importance of the commercial value of the region's cultural markets. For the first time, the public can vote on which programs they think are best. Outdoor performances are also being featured during the festival, aiming to offer more options for a wider audience.
