The Fifth Shanghai International Arts Festival came to a close Tuesday in this oriental metropolis of Shanghai.

During the arts festival, which opened one month ago, 70 arts troupes from 26 countries staged 165 performances attracting over one million people, said Chen Shenglai, president of the Center for the China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

These performances included the Second China Shanghai International Piano Competition, the Shanghai International Magic Festival and Competition, and the Sixth Shanghai Asia Music Festival.

In the meantime, 15 large expositions were held during the arts festival.
