Cultural Universality Enhances Cultural Exchanges

The universality of culture plays an important role in enhancing cultural exchanges and establishinga global cultural market and diversity is a embodiment of such an concept, said Jean-Pierre Angremy, a member of the French Academy in Beijing Thursday.

In an interview with Xinhua during a conference of the Asia-Europe meeting, Angremy recalled the European history, saying that Europe has an zigzag experience in recognizing the concept of culture.

To form a global cultural market is a trend, and an inevitable outcome of cultural universality, he said, but all nations should have the right to enjoy their own cultures.

"We should not shun the cultural conflicts and because of their existence dialog is all the more essential," he acknowledged.

He mentioned that Chinese culture has become more popular in France since the launch of the Chinese Culture Year in October 2003 and French culture will come to China next year.

"I believe that these activities will vigorously press ahead the relations of cooperation between the two nations in the sphere of culture," Angremy said.
