Shanghai World Expo Seeks Theme Song

One hundred days have passed since the organizers of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo officially launched the search for the event's theme song on December 3 last year. And the song-recruiting office say so far they've received more than 100 songs -- that's an average of one a day!

Songs poured in all the way from Yunnan Province in southwest China to Heilongjiang Province and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region up north. Chinese living in America even sent in a few tunes.

The Director of Shanghai World Expo Office, Huang Yaocheng, said, "We've had a really good response, and we've just received an application from the South Korean songwriter who composed for the Seoul Olympics".

Songwriters have until the end of 2008 to send in compositions. Songs should reflect the theme "Better City, Better Life". Ten songs will be selected each year. A jury of experts and ordinary citizens will make the final decision.
