The group comprises more than 170,000 people mainly distributed in the Qapqal Xibe Autonomous County of Ili Prefecture, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and in Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces. The Xibe people have their own spoken and written language.
