Extreme Heat, Extreme Measures

Women protect themselves against scorching temperatures in Nanjing City in the eastern province of Jiangsu on Tuesday as the maximum temperature reached 35 degrees centigrade for eight consecutive days.

Soaring temperatures in many cities have been partly blamed for this year's power shortages that have led to widespread blackouts.
