Heavy Fog Blankets Shanghai

A heavy fog covered east China metropolis Shanghai, Friday, disrupting traffic.

Local transportation authorities said three ferry services linking Chongming Island and Shanghai proper were suspended and several expressways linking Shanghai with neighboring provinces and cities were closed due to the heavy fog.

More than 40 flights were delayed at Hongqiao and Pudong airports and more road accidents were reported than during normal days, according to the transportation authorities.

Shanghai Meteorological Station said that visibility was less than 200 meters. The fog began early Friday morning due to high humidity, which was caused by Thursday night rainfall.

It is forecast that the fog is expected to end by early Saturday morning.
