Chinese National Forestry Administration says measures taken in the last decade to protect China's forests have been successful.

The department recent report says a series of protective measures were begun in 1998 to reclaim lost forests and prevent  and water loss.

The steps have reduced the desert areas of China by five percent annually in the past years.
