Snow Blankets Coastal Cities in Shandong Province

A heavy snowfall hit Weihai in Shandong Province yesterday. The city experienced its longest and heaviest snow storm in 41 years. From Saturday, 54.6 millimeters of snow fell. Streets had 46 centimeters of snow. Losses were 50 million yuan (US$6.19 million).

Early on Saturday, a blizzard hit the already snow-covered city of Yantai in the province. Yantai Meteorological Bureau issued a "red" warning (the most severe in the local weather warning system) for a blizzard and another "red" warning for frozen road conditions Friday. The snowy weather, starting on Dec. 3, has resulted in the heaviest snowfall in the city's history since 1961.

Cars in the street are covered with thick snow after a heavy snowfall hit Weihai on Sunday.
