Beijing to Ensure Air Quality
Adjust font size:

Beijing will work out a "scheme of ensuring air quality during Olympics" to contain traffic volume, suspend construction and join hands with surrounding regions to reduce pollutant emission during the Beijing Olympics Games in 2008.

Some members of Beijing People's Congress, who are recently inspecting the city's air pollution control and water pollution prevention and rectification work, pointed out that the capital will follow the direction of the State Environmental Protection Administration and cooperate with surrounding provinces and cities to jointly study and formulate the "scheme of ensuring air quality during the Olympics".

The above scheme will cover three parts, namely measures taken by Beijing and surrounding regions as well as the air quality monitoring plan.

With regard to the problems of inhaleable particulate matters and ozone pollution, during the Olympics Beijing will focus on controlling pollutant emission by automobiles, coal burning, key enterprises, construction sites, gas stations and the catering industry.

It will take measures to contain traffic volume, suspend construction and spraying painting, fully clean or replace petrol fume cleansing settings, and also reduce pollutant emission in surrounding regions.
