China Launches Great Wall Eco-environmental Study
Adjust font size:
An expedition composed of scholars of history, archaeology, environmental science, culture and anthropology and journalists will start in early August from Hushan in Dandong, Liaoning through the Great Wall in Liaoning, Hebei, Tianjin, Beijing, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia and arrive at the Jiayu Pass in Gansu for an investigation of the architecture, sites and remnants of the Great Wall and its eco-environment.

The Great Wall is one of the longest-standing architectures in human history and the symbol and pride of the Chinese nation. Erosions, wars and large-scale human reclamation efforts have plagued the eco-environment in the Great Wall. It has become one of the most important tasks for China's west to protect the important cultural heritage and the eco-environment of the Great Wall in its development programs.

The expedition will carry out special studies on the Great Wall and the history, ancient architecture, eco-environment, nationality and culture in its surrounding areas. They will, in collaboration with local governments, launch a publicity campaign to arouse mass awareness to protect the Great Wall.
