Beijing to Build Urban Forests
There will be forested land on the north-south axis of Beijing that falls on the Forbidden City and the Tian’anmen Square. The green land, an equivalent of the size of the Tian’anmen Square, will extend from Qianmen to Yongdingmen in the south and a forest ecological park will appear on the 7 km-long northern axis.

Beijing will build a territorial ecological safety system and a highly effective green industry system in light of the spirit of New Beijing and Great Olympics this year.

It will plant trees or grass on 36,000 hectares. The forest coverage will rise by two percentage points and 500 hectares of forested land will be added this year. The per-capita acreage of green will rise by two square meters, averaging 44 square meters per person. In the meantime, a second forest belt will be built round the city.
