China Sets Goals for Forestry Development by 2050
The State Forestry Administration has published its goals for forestry development by 2050 in the "Strategic Research on the Sustainable Development of China's Forestry" released on Monday.

The goals include sustainable development in forestry with the priority on ecological construction; establishment of a land ecological security system with the priority on forests and vegetation; and construction of a scenic ecological and civilized society.

The focus of the strategic research, which was launched in July 2001, was ecological construction, ecological security and ecological civilization, in the framework of the nation's overall economic and social sustainable development strategy, said Zhou Shengxian, director of the administration.

The research report revealed several key issues concerning forestry development, such as national and local forest layouts, protection of natural forest resources, reclaiming farmland for forest and grass, anti-desertification, protection of wild animals and plants, construction of nature reserves, wetland protection and forest disaster prevention and control.
