Tibet's Water Resources Rank Top in China

The Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China has 448.2 billion cubic meters of water, ranking top in the country in terms of water volume, a latest survey indicates.

The water volume accounts for 30 percent of the country's total.

Tibet's per capita and per hectare water volumes also ranked first in the country.

The survey, by the Ministry of Water Resources and the China State Power Group, also showed that the region has a theoretical capacity to generate 1,800 billion kwh of electricity every year, second only to neighboring Sichuan Province.

Currently, Tibet has only 400 hydropower stations, which generate about 43 billion kwh on an annual basis, showing the promise of untapped resources.
