Shanghai to Enhance Environmental Protection

Shanghai will launch a system to analyze, forecast and evaluate the influences that the local planning and construction projects are likely to put on environment in order to alleviate the negative impacts on environment, according to Shanghai municipal government's regular press conference Wednesday.

All the local planning drafts should be combined with evaluation files indicating the influences on environment, with more requirements needed for supervising local planning and construction projects.

When construction projects are implemented, requirements for environmental protection are made more clearly: water-polluting manufacturing projects are banned from launching in the headwater protection zone of the upper-reaches of the Huangpu River; construction projects must meet the requirements of local clean fuel use and air-pollution disposal; boilers using high-pollution fuels such as coal and heavy oil are banned from establishing inside the city's Inner Ring Road.
