Shanghai to Promote Artificial Rain to Save Electricity

Shanghai is considering producing artificial rainfall this summer in an attempt to help cool off the city to better deal with expected electric shortages.

Local officials say artificial rainfall is a measure to lower the temperature, which must be made under certain natural situations including a thick cloud cover and high humidity.

The local meteorological administration is currently working on a specific rain making plan.

According to the weather forecast, Shanghai is expected to see less hot days and more precipitation this summer, which benefits hydroelectric power generation and results in lower temperatures.
