Chinese, Japanese Airlines Sign Code-sharing Deal
China Eastern Airlines Co. and Japan Airlines signed an agreement in Shanghai on Monday to cooperate on code-sharing on air routes linking several major Chinese and Japanese cities.

Under the agreement, due to take effect on September 1, the two airlines will cooperate over code-sharing on the air routes linking Shanghai and Qingdao of China with Tokyo and Osaka of Japan.

The companies will also exchange an equal number of specified seats with each other on designated flights.

Aviation experts said the deal would benefit passengers traveling on the routes and the two airlines.

China Eastern Airlines Co, the major Chinese air carrier on air routes linking China and Japan, has 45 scheduled flights to Japan every week on 10 routes.

The Chinese company has made similar deals with its counterparts in the United States, the Republic of Korea and other countries.
