The Jakarta-based Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MERC) will send five doctors to Baghdad to help provide medical assistance for the victims of war between the US-led coalition and Iraq.
MERC head Dr. Joserizal Jurnalis said Monday the five doctors will embark to Baghdad on April 1 or 2.
"We are now waiting for visas. We will possibly stay there (Baghdad) for one month," he was quoted by Detikcom online news service as saying.
He said three surgeons will join the five-doctor team, two of whom had medical experience in warfare in Afghanistan.
Jozerizal, who will lead the medical team, said they would build their own tent to provide medical services to civilians.
Indonesia is among the strongest countries against the ongoing war in Iraq. In the first day of US attacks on Iraq, President Megawati Soekarnoputri strongly condemned the action and called on the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting to protest the unilateral action.
