The US Army's 173rd Brigade has parachuted part of its troops into an airfield in northern Iraq, a US defense official said Wednesday.
"It's the first sizable force in northern Iraq," the official was quoted as saying by agencies reports.
An unknown number of US Special Operations forces have already been in northern Iraq, where the US military hopes to open a second front in the ongoing war in Iraq.
