UN Security Council Adopts "Oil-for-food" Program for Iraq
The United Nations Security Council on Friday unanimously adopted a draft resolution adjusting the "oil-for-food" program to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of the Iraqi people.

The resolution allows the resumption of humanitarian aid for Iraq through its "oil-for-food" program.

Under the resolution, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan will be able to run the program in Iraq for 45 days.

The oil-for-food program, which started in 1996, has been suspended since the outbreak the Iraqi war last week.

About 60 percent of the Iraqi population depends on the "oil-for-food" program for daily supplies.
