About 4,000 protesters gathered at the downtown Toronto, Canada's largest city, on Saturday Morning. Shirley Douglas, one of the organizers, delivered a spirited speech pointed at US ambassador to Canada Paul Cellucci, who blamed Canada for not taking part in the war.

"Your country has had over 35 wars since World War II, and we have not chosen to come with you on many of those wars. We did not choose to go to Vietnam. We do not choose to go to the war in Iraq," she said.

Snow blanketed hundreds of people who attended a peace rally in Canada's eastern city of Halifax. The protesters later formed a giant human peace sign on the side of Citadel Hill in the heart of downtown Halifax.

In the central city Edmonton, about 1,000 people protested against the war under cold grey skies carrying signs of "Murder for oil is wrong and Iraqi kids need food -- not bombs." Some protesters waved Iraqi flags and peace symbols as the crowd listened to antiwar songs.
