Chilean Doctors Ask to Provide Assistance to the Injured in Iraq
The General Council of the Santiago Regional Medical College announced on Saturday that 33 Chilean physicians of different specialities volunteer to provide medical assistance to the injured in Iraq.

Surgeon Meliton Mendieta of the mentioned institution told the press that the volunteers consist of pediatricians, anesthetists and surgeons, as well as nurses and paramedics, who are prepared to act in catastrophe areas.

Mendieta said the initiative came due to the fact that non-government organization Doctors Without Borders working in conflict areas are not enough and there are large number of victims.

He said that the doctors now are waiting for the Chilean government to provide them with the adequate conditions to go to Iraq.

Mendieta said that the volunteers asked the government to provide them with necessary assistance, such as ship resources, first-line medicine, tents and medical equipment in a bid to guarantee the work of a field hospital.
