China Hopes to See Positive Donors' Conference for Iraq

China hopes a positive international donors' conference on Iraq's reconstruction in Madrid, capital of Spain, said Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue in Beijing Thursday.

In response to a related question, Zhang said China hopes it bears fruit so as to have a positive effect on the reconstruction of Iraq.

Zhang said China has always attached great importance to and participates in Iraq's reconstruction. After the Iraqi war this spring China has also offered help to the Iraqi people within its ability. China will also donate in this conference, said Zhang.

A Chinese delegation, led by Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang, had arrived in Madrid and some Chinese companies also arrived there to attend the industrial and commercial forum held during the conference, said the spokeswoman.

The two-day conference opened Thursday, with the participation of about 1,200 representatives from 58 countries, 25 multilateral organizations and 225 companies.
