Several loud explosions were heard late Sunday in central Baghdad, but the exact location was not immediately known.  

The three to four sounds of blast came in succession shortly before 8:40 p.m. (1740 GMT), said local residents. The US-led coalition could not provide any details.

It remained to be determined if it was the latest of a fresh wave of bombardments at the coalition headquarters stretching alongside the west bank of the Tigris River. 

A single mortar round fired somewhere south of the compound flied six kilometers and fell north of it late Saturday, causing no casualties.

Four people were reported to be injured when three shells landed around the heavily fortified compound on Tuesday.
