Shanghai Continues Its Fight Against SARS Epidemic
The Shanghai municipal government said Tuesday it will continue its efforts to track and control SARS in order to identify suspected cases and initiate treatment as soon as possible.

By noon on Tuesday, four suspected cases, including two from overseas, had remained in isolation in local hospitals for monitoring and observation. However, doctors say the patients do not exhibit the precise symptoms established by the World Health Organization (WHO) for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

A middle-aged woman previously suspected of carrying the virus is currently recovering, according to doctors.

Over the past month, local health officials from relevant departments have been holding daily joint meetings to exchange information, and a 20-member medical panel is on stand-by for diagnostic consultation.

To date, the municipality has distributed 400,000 leaflets on SARS prevention at local medical institutions, and 200,000 such notices have been issued to local urbanites.

The special web pages on SARS have been made available on a local health website to inform the general public of the latest developments, and English language web pages have also been provided.
