To keep the disease from spreading, etiological segregation of HPAI, as a Class One contagious disease, must be undertaken in a specialized laboratory conforming to Bio-safety Level (BSL) 3+ requirements for laboratories as designated by the Ministry of Agriculture. To engage in viral segregation and proliferation in a laboratory without these strict protective conditions would be likely to give rise to the spread of the virus and the possible infection of the laboratory workers involved.
