21. Why should poultry, which has been destroyed, be disposed of on a bio-safety basis?

Because the carcasses may still contain the HPAI virus and so lead to the widespread distribution of the disease. It would endanger consumers' health if these pathogens were not properly dealt with and diseased birds were allowed into marketplaces. In an effort to ensure consumer health and effective containment of an epidemic, a bio-safety-based method for the disposal of culled poultry, e.g. destroying by fire and deep burial, must be implemented.
