60th Anniversary Marked of Camp Liberation in Germany

Survivors of the Dachau labor camp in Germany have held a service commemorating the 60th anniversary of their liberation on April the 29th, 1945.

Hundreds watched the ceremony, led by the Archbishop of Munich and Freising, Cardinal Friedrich Wetter.

The cardinal said more than 200-thousand prisoners from 38 countries were detained in Dachau and its external camps throughout the war.

More than 30-thousand people died during its 12 years of operation. The horrors of the Nazi regime were first made known to the world at Dachau. When US soldiers entered the concentration camp, they found thousands of decomposing corpses scattered around.
