Shenzhen to Hold Beach Film Week

If you want to relive the bygone era of open-air cinema at the end of summer, you will get your chance at the Beach Film Cultural Week in Shenzhen from September 17 to 23.

The film week, which will be held at the Dameisha Beach Park in the east of the city, will celebrate the centenary of Chinese cinema, said the organizers.

During the opening ceremony September 17, audiences will be shown clips of dozens of old Chinese films. Many veteran Chinese directors, actors and actresses will be present at the beach to share memorable anecdotes about the making of the films in the 1950s and 1960s.

These veteran artists include Xie Tieli, director of Early Spring (1963) and Bosom Friends (1982), Tao Yuling, who is famous for her roles in Story of Liubao (1957) and Sentinels Under the Neon Lights (1964), Liu Jiang, famous villain in Shining Red Star (1975), and Lu Qi, who acted as the late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping.

The event is free and open to audiences during the week. The organizers said a film poster exhibition would be on display at that time, showcasing hundreds of Chinese film posters from different eras. Fans will have the chance to see the country’s first film poster.
