The Promise and Kung Fu Hustle Vie for Golden Globe

Chinese director Chen Kaige's The Promise and Hong Kong director Stephan Chow's Kung Fu Hustle have both been nominated for Best Foreign Picture at the 63rd Golden Globe Awards, announced on Tuesday.

This is the second time that Chen Kaige entered this section's competition at the Golden Globe. His former film Farewell My Concubine won the accolade in 1994.

Also on the nomination lists includes Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, who will compete for Best Actress for her performance in the film adaptation of Arthur Golden's 1997 novel Memoirs of a Geisha.

The film Brokeback Mountain, directed by Ang Lee tops the list, receiving seven nominations such as Best Pictures and Best Director.

The Golden Globe Awards honors excellence in film and television and is considered an important guide to predicting the results at the Oscars.
