Traffic Resumes on Flood-collapsed Railway in N.W. China

The railway from Baoji City in Shaanxi Province of northwest China to Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province, reopened Monday morning after being closed due to heavy rainfall.

Around 1:50 p.m. Sunday, after days of continuous heavy rainstorms, a mud-rock flow washed across a railway section in the mountain area near Baoji City, collapsing the groundwork which was 20 meters deep and 30 meters long.

The local railway administration closed the section immediately and carried out repairs.

More than 2,000 armed police and workers from the administration were sent to work at the site while temporary detour trains were arranged to carry short-distance passengers.

At 7:50 a.m. Monday, the railway resumed normal service.
