Theme: China: The Next 50 Years?

More than 800 representatives, including 300 chairpeople, presidents and CEOs from multinational companies and 200 Chinese entrepreneurs, attended the 5th Fortune Global Forum at Shanghai International Convention Center from September 27 to 29, 1999. About 300 overseas journalists and 300 Chinese journalists registered to cover it. Fifty-eight Fortune 500 companies came to Shanghai for the event. Most of them ranked among the 100 largest, five among the 10 largest.

A total of 40 subjects were discussed at the Forum’s sessions, covering both global issues and China-specific topics.

Then President Jiang Zemin delivered an important speech at the opening banquet.
