China's Meng Jie Beaten in Round of 16

China's Meng Jie failed to continue the strong runs of the Chinese fencing team, finishing out of last eight in the women's foil individual on Wednesday following a 15-11 loss to Laura Gabriela Carlescu Badea of Romania.

Meng is the only fencer to compete in the event for China and she wrapped up her Athens Olympic journey with one win and one loss as the competition cut off the team event of women's foil for the first time.

China had two silver medals under the name as Tan Xue's runner-up finishing in the women's sabre and Wang Lei's triumph in the men's epee on Tuesday.

The 11th-seeded Meng won the preliminary round by 15-12 over Wassila Redquane Said-Guerni of Algeria prior to the loss in the round of last 16.
