Four Chinese Confirmed Dead in Tsunami in Thailand

Four Chinese tourists have been confirmed dead in the tsunami in southern Thailand on December 19, 2004.

According to the Chinese embassy in Thailand, four Chinese tourists died in tsunami which seriously damaged Thailand's six southern provinces on Sunday. The victims include one from China's Jiangsu Province, one from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the other two from China's Taiwan Province.

Till Friday morning, 14 Chinese tourists had been injured in the tidal waves, including three from China's Hong Kong SAR. Most of the wounded have returned home.

An official from the Chinese embassy in Thailand revealed that 111 Hong Kong tourists were missing. He hoped Thai government could help the Chinese side in searching for those tourists.

It is still unclear how many tourists from the Chinese mainland have been missing. Earlier reports said the figure exceeded 30.

Latest statistics from the Interior Ministry showed that death toll from Sunday's tsunami has risen to 4,541, half of whom were foreigners.
