Indonesia Seeks US$3.3 Bln Loans from CGI

The Indonesian government will ask new loans of 3.3 billion US dollars from its donor group, the Consultative Group on Indonesia (CGI), in a meeting Wednesday.

"Government's actual need for the state budget is 2.8 billion dollars. But we also need 500 million dollars for non-budgetary spending," State Minister for National Development Planning Sri Mulyani Indrawati told reporters before the meeting.

She said the government proposal did not include reconstruction costs in the tsunami-hit Aceh as the government is still working on the accurate assessment of financial losses from the disaster.

"Besides, Aceh has received donation from other donors outside the CGI, such as China," she said.

Indrawati said the CGI is expected to make decision on Indonesian proposal Thursday.

Comprising 30 bilateral and multilateral donors, the World Bank-led CGI holds annual meeting with the Indonesian government to discuss loans for Indonesia.
