Thailand to Host Int'l Conference on Mental Support to Tsunami Victims

Thailand will host an international conference on psychological support to tsunami victims early next month.

The conference will be held at the Hyatt Erawan Hotel in Bangkok on Feb. 2-3, the Director-General of the Department of Mental Health, Dr. M.L. Somchai Chakrabhand was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying Friday.

Medical experts, psychologists and concerned officials from countries ravaged by the Dec. 26's tsunamis would attend the meeting, including those from Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand, he disclosed.

Experts and representatives from countries having experiences in disasters' relief operations, including Japan and the United States, would also take part in the two-day conference, he noted.

Thailand's six southern Andaman provinces, including Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Trang, Ranong and Satun, were battered by the massive tsunamis three weeks ago, leaving over 5,300 victims confirmed dead, while over 8,400 injured and thousands of others still missing.
