Eight Quakes Rock India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The tsunami-hit Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India were rocked by eight earthquakes measuring 5 to 5.3 on the Richter scale Sunday, according to Indo-Asian News Service.

The quakes, classified as "moderate" by the India Meteorological Department, started just after midnight Saturday and continued till 8:49 a.m. Sunday.

The epicenters of the tremors were located off the east coast of Car Nicobar Island, the north coast of Camorta and northwest of North Andaman Islands.

An official from the Meteorological Department said all the tremors were aftershocks of the massive earthquake of Dec. 26, 2004, that triggered tidal waves in parts of South and Southeast Asia.

There were no reports of casualty or damage to property.

Meanwhile, a "slight" tremor measuring 3.7 on the Richter scale was recorded in Moradabad district of Uttar Pradesh.
