British Prince to Visit Thailand

Britain's Prince Andrew is scheduled to visit Thailand's southern Phuket island at the end of April to say thanks to those who had helped its nationals during last year's tsunami.

The visit is expected to start on April 25 or 26 after a trip to Japan, reported The Nation newspaper on Wednesday.

After spending time with Thai tsunami victims, the prince will visit Mai Khao cemetery, which has a memorial to the British nationals perished in the disaster.

Security measures concerning the prince's visit has been discussed at a meeting between officials from Buckingham Palace and the British Foreign Ministry and Phuket Deputy Governor Nirun Kalayanamitr.

Also on Tuesday, Norwegian Consul Tom Tyrihgell and Phuket Governor Udomsak Assawarangkul discussed plans for a memorial ceremony for Thai and Norwegian tsunami victims.

The event, scheduled for May 3-7, will see attendance of 230 relatives of the Norwegian killed in tsunami.
