President Hu Calls for Continuing Party's Education Campaign

General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Hu Jintao has called for substantial efforts to ensure the on-going campaign to maintain the "advanced nature" of the Party, a program that will satisfy the people.

"To strengthen the building of the Party's ruling capabilities and ensure that the advanced nature-maintaining campaign is a program that can really satisfy the masses, so as to better follow the demands of a scientific view of development and push forward the overall development of the socialist economic, political and cultural construction and the building of a harmonious society," said Hu, President of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission.

Hu said this while in Shandong Province, east China, on a study tour between April 7-10, with Wang Gang, an alternate member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee and director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.

"Our Party has its root, blood and power in the people," Hu said. "The fundamental goal to strengthen the building of the Party's ruling capabilities and advanced nature is to maintain the flesh-and-blood links with the people and to realize, maintain and develop the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people."

The current campaign to "maintain the advanced nature of Party members" is a major measure adopted by the Party to "strengthen the building of the Party's ruling capabilities and its advanced nature," Hu said. He called for adherence to "truthfulness and practicality, consistent attention to the people's livelihood, and cleanness and diligence."

During his stay in Shandong, the president visited local factories, rural cooperatives, and urban communities, as well as some environmental and irrigation projects.
