Beijing Tightens Safety Checks over Forum Facilities

Some safety inspectors and experts have been assigned to supervise the ongoing construction of facilities specially designed for the upcoming opening ceremony of the 2005 Fortune Global Forum, according to the Beijing Municipal Administration of Production Safety.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to be held on May 16 in the park of the Temple of Heaven which was built in 1417 in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) in Beijing.

Liu Chunfeng, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Administration of Production Safety, said that the safety inspectors and experts had thoroughly examined all the facilities temporarily built for the opening ceremony in the park and have ordered relevant departments to make improvement for those which failed to meet safety standards.

Chinese senior officials and some world's top business leaders are expected to attend the opening ceremony and the 2005 Fortune Global Forum to be held in Beijing from May 16 to 18.
