Campaign to Curb Work Safety Accidents
Adjust font size:

China will conduct an inspection and supervision campaign to eliminate hidden work safety risks, a document released by the State Council said Tuesday.

In April, the number of the country's major accidents rose by 36 percent year on year and the death toll from these accidents rose by 38 percent year on year, according to official figures.

The campaign will focus on high-risk industries such as mining, petrochemicals, non-ferrous metals, construction and fisheries.

The document lists five requirements for local authorities and firms:

-- Enhance leadership and assume responsibility

-- Strengthen inspection and pay particular attention to high-risk industries

-- Cooperate with workers and industry practitioners

-- Focus on long-term benefits

-- Intensify inspection and supervision through news media

Local governments and authorities are required to complete their inspections before August 20 and the central government will send inspection groups in August and September.
