The Sichuan Provincial Higher People's Court has imposed the death sentence on Li Yushu, former deputy mayor of Leshan City in the southwest China Province, for taking bribes and other crimes.
According to the verdict made public Wednesday, Li has been deprived of his political rights for life and all his personal property has been confiscated.
Investigations show that from May 1996 onwards Li, by taking advantage of his position, received 8.16 million yuan (US$980,000) in bribes, a Luxe IS200 sedan car, a Mazda 929 sedan car and a Rolex watch.
The local procuratorate has frozen Li's cash, bank deposits, securities, stocks, residential property, sedan cars and other property, valued at 11.85 million yuan and 91,000 US dollars.
Li could not give a legal source for more than 3 million yuan in cash and goods.
