Rules Set for Criminals on Probation
China has enacted its first regulations detailing procedures, which must be followed by administrators and supervisors dealing with criminals during their probationary period.

According to the new rules, those on probation must regularly do laboring on community projects.

Those who behave well during their probation period could have their original sentence reduced.

Staff from the public security department, the procuratorate office and the courthouse will work together in checking up regularly on criminals on probation.

Officials from rural public security units will be required to set up special teams to train and organize those on probation in accordance with regulations.

Wang Ming, vice president of the Beijing Higher People's Court, said that the new regulations will help improve the legal system and the rule of law in China.
