Macao, Xinjiang Police to Forge Closer Ties
South China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region will hopefully cooperate more closely in fighting against crimes and upgrading public order.

A delegation led by Secretary for Security Cheong Kuoc Va of the SAR government left Macao Friday for a visit to Xinjiang, with a stopover in Beijing.

A spokesman for the General Secretariat for Security said the delegation is expected to "increase know-how on the western areas and expand space for cooperation in police affairs in an effort toaddress the demand in a new situation."

After Macao returned to the motherland at the end of 1999, tightened ties between public security departments of the SAR and the inland played an important role in jointly safeguarding sound social order and cracking down on crimes, the spokesman said.

The delegation, consisting of a few high-ranking police authorities, plans to meet Xinjiang's public security officials and visit local police departments and facilities.
