Ex-Judge in South China Province Under Investigation
The former chief justice of southern China's Guangdong province is being investigated for accepting massive bribes, according to sources with the CPC Central Committee for Discipline Inspection.

Mai Chongkai and his son, who was not identified, accepted about 12 million yuan ($1.4 million) in bribes while Mai served with the court from January 1989 to February 1998.

Mai was also accused of using his influence to secure large bank loans for his son's business, the paper said. It said Mai was also accused of living a "morally degenerate" life, but gave no details.

Mai could be expelled from the Communist Party, and may face prosecution.
