Beijing's Anti-SARS Campaign Makes Progress: Official
Beijing's fight against SARS has made progress, but the city will not slacken prevention and control work, Liu Qi, secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said Thursday.

Liu, also head of Beijing's SARS-control working group, made the remarks in a meeting with Roman Fischer, president of Daimler Chrysler (China) Ltd..

"Like Hong Kong and Guangdong Province, SARS cases have dropped in Beijing. In comparison with the situation in early May, the daily number of new SARS cases has fallen remarkably," Liu said, adding that the city is confident of winning the anti-SARS battle

Beijing has promoted economic development while fighting against SARS. The city's manufacturing industry, especially the automotive sector, has not been affected greatly, Liu said.

Fischer said the performance of Daimler Chrysler (China) Ltd. will not be affected by SARS and he believes China will continue rapid economic growth momentum.

Daimler Chrysler (China) Ltd. also donated 360,000 US dollars worth of medical materials to Beijing to combat SARS.
