Beijing Establishes Committee to Boost Public Health System
The Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) officially established a work committee Monday to boost public health work in the capital city.

The committee will work with the municipal bureau of health in the same office. You Lantian, a member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC, has been named head of the committee.

"Establishing the committee is an important decision made by the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC aimed at bolstering the public health system in the Chinese capital following the strike of SARS," deputy secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC Long Xinmin said at Monday's ceremony marking the establishment of the committee.

Long said the construction and development of the public health system has direct bearings on the health and safety of the people and is linked to the overall situation of reform, development and stability in the capital city and the city's international image.

He urged the work committee and the municipal medical and public health system to work hard to establish a modern public health system to ensure the health of the masses.
