State Council Meets to Combat Smuggling
China will continue its nationwide campaign against smuggling and a national conference will soon be held to map out new plans on the issue, according to an executive meeting of the State Council Wednesday.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao presided over the meeting.

After hearing a report by the General Administration of Customs, the meeting concluded that the anti-smuggling fight was a long-term task.

It called for constant improvements of the law and the establishment of an effective national anti-smuggling mechanism to safeguard the interests of the state and the market economy.

The meeting heard a report on the campaign against SARS, the building of public sanitary facilities. It also discussed and approved, in principle, the draft Provisions on Legal Assistance.
