Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, said Tuesday that China has succeeded in fighting SARS thanks to heroic efforts nationwide.

He was speaking while meeting those who had contributed to the fight against the disease.

These national "heroes" and "heroines" from all walks of society, including medical workers, stood against the disease and even sacrificed their lives, Li said.

 
Li called on the whole country to learn from their courage and selflessness.
